Dental Implants
Losing a tooth or several teeth can be devastating and it used to be that dentistry had to replace the missing tooth with a false or denture tooth and bridges. With today's new technology, a surgical implant can actually be fused to your existing bone to create an anchor for a permanent tooth that is never removed.
If you are missing a single tooth or even a few teeth, Dr. Sayeg may recommend a Dental Implant or Implants.
If you are missing a single tooth or even a few teeth, Dr. Sayeg may recommend a Dental Implant or Implants. A Dental Implant is a titanium metal replacement for a root of a tooth that is surgically implanted in the jawbone. He will begin with a thorough evaluation of your medical and dental history and a full clinical examination of the entire mouth and missing tooth area. An important factor for selection is to determine whether your jawbone can adequately support the implant. Most dental implants placed today are endosteel root form fixtures similar to a man-made tooth root. Another type used is the subperiosteel implant and both are approved by the American Dental Association.
It is important to know that the implant treatment consists of two components: a surgical phase and a restorative phase. This is a team effort that involves an oral surgeon or a periodontist for the surgical phase. The implants are surgically implanted in the jawbone under local anesthesia. The body heals for approximately two to six months after the surgery as the bone around the implant fuses to the implant through a process called Osseo integration. The length of healing time is based on the quality and quantity of bone, as well as the type of implant placed.
After adequate healing is allowed to occur, Dr. Sayeg with perform the restorative portion using the implant to support a crown, bridge or denture.
